Bragg Trailhead

The 1-mile long paved Cotton Field Trail at Stones River connects the battlefield to the Stones River Greenway. Visitors will walk through the fields where Union troops were finally able to stop the Confederates short of the Nashville Pike on Dec. 31, 1862.

The trail also crosses part of the area that became known as Hell's Half Acre, scene of some of the bloodiest fighting of the battle. After crossing the Old Nashville Highway, visitors can walk about one half mile to Gen. Braxton Bragg's Jan. 1, 1863 headquarters site, which is also a trailhead to the Greenway system.  The view along Stones River is beautiful and ideal for photography. Admission is free. Parking is plentiful.

There are also public restrooms, picnic tables and a children’s playground at the trailhead. The city’s Barkpark is in the same area.
