City to start next phase of Veterans Parkway

MICHELLE WILLARD, Post Staff Writer

The next part of Veterans Parkway may be under construction soon as the Murfreesboro City Council reviews the latest bids for the roadway.

Murfreesboro’s Planning Department will present the lowest and best bid to construct Veterans Parkway from State Route 99 to Franklin Road. The new road will begin just east of Armstrong Valley Road in the south and connect with Beesley Road in the north.

Highways Inc. of Cookeville came in with the lowest bid of more than $7.2 million, which will be funded by a loan from the Tennessee Municipal Bond Fund.

Construction on the four-lane road should begin this summer.

The city plans to build Veterans Parkway in phases over a couple of years and eventually it will connect to the Beesley Road interchange at state route 840.

TDOT spent $20.9 million on the recently completed Beesley Road project.
