A public meeting to present details of proposed improvements to Haynes Drive from Regency Park to Sulphur Springs Road will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 17 in Siegel Elementary School, 135 W. Thompson Lane.

Staff members from Murfreesboro Engineering Department and representatives from Huddleston-Steele Engineering, the city’s consultant for the project, will be available to review the plans, explain the project and answer questions.

The city proposes to improve the roadway from east of Regency Park to west of Sulphur Springs drives, Murfreesboro City Engineer Chris Griffith told members of Murfreesboro City Council recently. The proposed improvements include flattening of the existing horizontal curve, providing banking to the curves and adding a center turn lane.

“We do not propose to add curb and gutter or sidewalks with these improvements,” he said. “Once the widening project is complete, the Street Department is scheduled to resurface the roadway from Memorial Boulevard to near Wiltshire Drive.”

Improvements from Regency to Sulphur Springs are expected to cost $400,000 and the cost estimate for resurfacing the entire roadway is expected to be an additional $300,000.

Any further improvements to Haynes Drive from Memorial Drive to near Wiltshire Drive should be studied further and recommended as part of the city’s Major Thoroughfare Plan.
