City Council members met briefly Tuesday to approve a drainage study for the Mitchell Neilson area of Murfreesboro. City Engineer Chris Griffith said the study would address community concerns of flooding.
"In May 2010 planning and engineering received calls of flooding in yards and in homes. We studied it for several months and found system problems," Griffith told the council.
Griffith told the council pipes extending through the Gray-Mar area to the old Chromalox site were built in the 1950s and need upgrades. Another system built in the 1980s may also not be keeping up with storm water flows due to new development.
The city will spend $6,400 from water and sewer funds for Huddleston Steel to create a proposed solution to address flooding concerns.
