City schools welcome Gilbert as director | Linda Gilbert, Murfreesboro City Schools

Mayor Tommy Bragg and City Schools Director Linda Gilbert
Dr. Linda Gilbert received a proclamation declaring Jan. 21, 2010 as a day to honor her for her return to Murfreesboro City Schools (MCS) as its Director.

Murfreesboro Mayor Tommy Bragg read the proclamation, saying Dr. Gilbert is already in the trenches of her new job.

A reception, attended by a capacity crowd, was given for Dr. Gilbert Jan. 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the gymnasium of Black Fox Elementary School.

Principal Joe Thompson and his team hosted the event, which was attended by Rutherford County Mayor Ernest Burgess and several other local dignitaries.

Thompson announced 100 cakes had been brought for the occasion.

MCS Board Chairman Mary Wade introduced Bragg.

Calling it an unusual event, Bragg quipped that Dr. Gilbert must be well-deserving because the honor was being bestowed at the beginning of her tenure instead of at the end.

He also acknowledged the overwhelming support Dr. Gilbert had been given by the Murfreesboro community.

Dr. Gilbert accepted the honor and, during her subsequent remarks, again charged the large crowd with one of her main goals.

"It's all about the children," she said.
