City schools fills two key positions

THE MURFREESBORO POST

Murfreesboro City Schools has filled two key administrative positions.

Gary Anderson, supervisor of school nutrition, has been named city schools’ finance and administrative services director, replacing Chuck Arnold, who will be retiring in August.

Dena Oneal was named preschool supervisor at Bellwood-Bowdoin Preschool and the off-site locates of Oakland Court, Franklin Heights and Mercury Court.

Anderson has served as supervisor of nutrition since 2002. A graduate of Lambuth University, he is a member of the Belmont University Advisory for the Department of Education, the Governor’s “P-16 Council,” and has been a member of the Williamson County School Board for 17 years.

“Mr. Anderson is recognized throughout the state and southeast region as an innovative and progressive leader,” said Marilyn Mathis, director of schools. “He has developed numerous award-winning programs that have been implemented locally and nationally. The unique insight and experiences that Mr. Anderson brings to this position will be extremely beneficial to Murfreesboro City Schools.”

Oneal has served as a speech and language therapist for Wilson County Schools, served as director of the YMCA of Central Kentucky and as a special education teacher at Woodbridge, Va.

“Murfreesboro City Schools has been a pioneer in the preschool movement beginning with Ruth Bowdoin’s Classroom on Wheels in 1968. Once again we are leading the way with an entire school focused solely on preparing at-risk preschoolers for kindergarten. Ms. Oneal brings the leadership experience and professional credentials to support the staff and serve the students,” Mathis said.
