The annual event, which showcases Murfreesboro city school students’ art work, was expanded this year to include the student’s art instructors and an awards ceremony will be held in the rotunda Oct. 21 from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. During the ceremony each grade level will receive a first, second and third place award.
Hobgood Elementary first grader Ronnie Rankins will be presented with the Best in Show Award. Hobgood will be recognized and presented with a monetary prize for winning the most awards.

George Popovich of Cason Lane Academy will receive the first place award in the teacher category with honorable mentions going to Mary Cunningham of the Discovery School at Reeves Rogers and Paulette Stover of Bradley Elementary School. Money for all awards was donated by Murfreesboro citizens.
Winners were selected by three jurors from the MTSU Department of Art, Sculpture Professor Michael Baggarly; Foundations and Printmaking Professor Kim Dummons and Painting Professor Sisavanh Phouthavong-Houghton.
The exhibit and ceremony are free and open to the public.
The exhibit and competition were sponsored and implemented by the City Hall Art Committee, a group appointed by Mayor Tommy Bragg and approved by the City Council. It is responsible for advancing the awareness and support of visual arts resources in Murfreesboro and for scheduling exhibitions of community artists and artists of local interest in the rotunda and lobbies of City Hall.
Committee members include Chairman Eric Snyder, Patricia Tenpenny, Cheryl Harris, Marie Miller, Lee Ann Walker, Linda Anderson and Terry Ann Womack.
