Long-time Murfreesboro Traffic Department Director Dana Richardson has been named Director of the city’s recently established Transportation Department.
He will lead a department reorganized to consolidate public transportation (Rover) and traffic operations under one roof, a move city administrators say will save money and improve services for citizens.
Richardson is a 25-year veteran of Murfreesboro city government, 15 of those as director of the city’s Traffic Department.
He says he looks forward to using his experience to help the city streamline its traffic and transportation needs and help promote better and more efficient services for taxpayers.
“Our goals are to continue to plan for and implement future roadway improvements while providing a public transportation system that meets the needs of the citizens of Murfreesboro,” he said.
Opportunity to combine the departments’ operations surfaced when the city’s former public transportation director left earlier this year. Administrators realized that, because of the overlap in funding sources and the way transit and road projects were developed and operated, efficiencies in both departments could be improved by putting them together under one roof.
The new department will be responsible for road projects, master planning development and execution for roads, transit, greenways, sidewalks and bike lanes. The new department will also oversee and manage the city’s aggressive funding for road projects. |
