Why are you running?
I have listened to our residents and business owners to gain their insight on the issues facing our community. I will continue to listen and insure that our city staff listens and gives every opportunity for constructive input, to make our city more efficient.

I have had the honor of serving you these past eight years as Mayor. I believe my business background as a commercial printer for 25 years, family experience raising my children in the City Schools, and military service, two years Active Duty and 24 Years in the National Guard, have provided the right understanding to listen and continue to serve our taxpayers, families and business owners.

I love Murfreesboro, and I ask for your vote on April 20.

What is your position on district versus at-large representation on the City Council?

With districts, our residents will only be able to vote every four years. Today, everyone votes for three candidates every two years.

District representation has some advantages. The primary decision should be based on the effect on public policy. For instance, we have built roads while I have been Mayor, in every part of our city. Old Lascassas, DeJarnette, South Rutherford, Veteran’s Parkway, Medical Center, Irongate, Seigel Road, Battleground. No one has been left out, and, no one has more influence than anyone else.

Our council has worked together without regard to where you live, who you are or who you know. The present system works.

What is your position the economic issues facing the city?
Making our city the most livable with great city services will not only attract new investment, but encourage our local businesses to grow.

Cheap financing, in the form of debt, has allowed the city to shape its own future by building the roads, schools, parks and infrastructure for the 21st Century.

General Mills, State Farm, Middle Tennessee Medical Center and MTSU could not expand had we not been prepared. Our hotel and conference center facilities make us not just an athletic venue but a full-service business and meeting location, broadening our tax base, and reducing our property tax dependence. I will continue those efforts.

What is the most pressing city issue and your possible solution?
The city is a statewide leader in the delivery of municipal services and public safety. The challenge will be to continue this excellence, maintaining our excellent city staff.

As Mayor, we’ve built new schools, parks and roads and concentrated on public safety.

We’ve hired new police officers and firefighters and have given them the best resources and training.

We’ve invested in our utilities.

We’ve started a new transit system.

We have been recognized nationally for our quality of life, educational facilities and growth.

As we are one of the best places in the country to raise a family and one of the best places to live, we have invested in ourselves and all without raising property taxes.

We must continue to excel as a city.

On April 20th, I ask for your vote for Mayor of Murfreesboro.
