Why are you running?
We need a different type of leadership – leadership that's responsive to its citizens. I’m running to be “The people’s Mayor” giving everyone a chance to be heard.
I believe the people of Murfreesboro have the solutions to the problems that face our city.
What is your position on district versus at-large representation on the City Council?
My position is that we should have district representations with a couple of at-large seats. The current system is not representative of this city.
The reason (incumbents) don’t want to change, is because they can’t win that way, and they know it. We run our federal government in districts; we run our state government in districts, but we don’t run our local government by districts. Every other election is done in districts except for this city election for the council.
I understand running the mayorship as an at-large seat, but we do need a mix of at-large and districts.”
What is your position the economic issues facing the city?
Lower taxes and cut spending; this policy would in turn reduce the debt that the current administration is piling up.
The City of Murfreesboro's total debt increased by $26,178,3788 (7.57 percent) during the year ending on June 30, 2009.
The current administration of Murfreesboro is following the same path as our leaders in Washington, D.C. We cannot spend our way out of this recession. As Mayor I will work with the council to balance the budget and reduce the debt and not acquire any new debt.
What is the most pressing city issue and your possible solution?
The creation of jobs by lowering the taxes business pays.
The government should lay a foundation so that every business both small and large can compete.
The government is not responsible for creating jobs. Jobs are created by business.
The current policies are not working; the unemployment rate of Murfreesboro is higher than the national average.
As Mayor I will work towards helping to attract small and large companies to Murfreesboro. We need to remove some of the barriers that hinder business growth in Murfreesboro.
