Before Murfreesboro’s City Council meets Thursday night it will hold a special meeting to discuss the city manager’s performance.
City Manager Rob Lyons has only been on the job since Aug. 1 and this is the first time he will hear feedback from the council.
The council is also looking into hiring a replacement deputy city manager. It should have the field narrowed down to five candidates by Oct. 1.
• In advance of the cold and flu season, Murfreesboro City Council is preparing for the H1N1 virus, or swine flu, by making temporary changes to the employee handbook.
The changes will make it easier for employees to get excused absences and stay home to care for ill family members.
• The council will also vote to pay for improvements to Greenland Drive between the Discovery School at Reeves-Rogers and Shawnee Drive with borrowed money.
The city looks to spend $1.5 million from funds on hand, which was borrowed previously for capital improvement projects.
• Council will consider an agreement with the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce for the new Visitors Center and Chamber office building.
The center cost an estimated $5.1 million, paid for in part by a $3.3 million Tennessee Department of Transportation grant to the city and a $2 million grant for the Chamber portion.
Council previously approved a TDOT grant and construction agreement for the building for a cost of $1.5 million, plus a $2-million grant from the Christy Houston Foundation.

The Rutherford County Board of Commissioners will also meeting Thursday night for its regular monthly meeting.
The commission will consider a new contract with County Attorney Jim Cope, as well as appoint members to standing committees.
