Why are you running?
Fresh perspective.
I would like to be involved in serving our great city; I would like to help to bring the next comprehensive plan to our city.
Our family and friends would like to live, work and play in the very best city in the nation.
Based on the current leadership and some of the decisions they have made, I would assess that our city council, as a group, has exhausted their knowledge to comprehensively grow the government in unison with a city that continues to develop and mature.
What is your position on district versus at-large representation on the City Council?
I am for district representation for two reasons.
First, the community deserves access to someone in their district to discuss their neighborhood concerns; second, I believe in the accountability that it brings.
I have spent time researching both representations, and discussing this with the people and I believe we should move forward with this.
Another nice by-product is it is less costly to run for city council, which could bring in better candidates at election.
What is your position the economic issues facing the city?
Lets bring jobs to Murfreesboro.
Let's attract knowledge-based technical industries in which 30 percent or more of the company has higher education.
These skills can come from health care, education, finance, Internet, professional and technical services. Skilled information technology is growing, let’s not miss our chance to be a part of the information age.
Work with two of our huge resources that attract high-paying jobs, MTSU with their educational program, along with teachers and administrators. Partner with our newest Medical Center in Murfreesboro that have specialized technology jobs, including doctors, nurses, technicians and professional administrators.
Plan comprehensively for student influx in our rapidly growing school systems. Our school system will need more great teachers and administrators in the near future
Give incentives to local “green-jobs” companies that invest in energy research using wind, solar, and bio-fuels.
Do not enter into nor give any contracts to companies that outsource.
Focus on getting companies here that do not outsource such as alternative energy, city infrastructure construction (pavers, electricians, machinists, civil and industrial engineers), aerospace and federal contract defense providers.
What is the most pressing city issue and your possible solution?
We just covered the most important; that is employment.
However, paramount to this city is having leadership with a comprehensive city plan so we can take care of our current citizens by spending money wisely.
In my house when we are out of money, we don't spend. If we make less money then we spend less money; we take fewer vacations and defer some things that we would like to have and care for the necessities.
The most important thing we now is CHANGE so help me create that on April 20.
