The first of the red light cameras will be installed this week at the Middle Tennessee Boulevard and Church Street intersection.

“We are in the process of the early stages of construction,” said Ram Balachandran, Murfreesboro traffic engineer.

Work is set to begin Tuesday on the first intersection with no interruptions to traffic expected. The contractor will install laser sensors and cameras, Balachandran said.

The Northfield-Memorial and Rutherford-John Bragg intersections are next on the city’s list to get the cameras.

All six locations should be installed by May 1 and the city allows a one-month grace period for light runners, Balachandran said.

“There may be some interruption in traffic later on but nothing now at Church and Middle Tennessee,” Balachandran said.

- From 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Murfreesboro Urban Environment Department will remove a large Poplar tree at the corner of Highland Avenue and East Main Street. The intersection will be closed for the duration of the project. Traffic will be detoured onto College and Vine streets.

- From 8 p.m.-2 a.m. Wednesday or Thursday, Murfreesboro Water and Sewer will perform water line work on Highland Avenue between Jackson and Forrest streets.

It might help with the white crime violence of running a red light and getting someone killed. Now what was that about the money? It does not cost the city a dime. The company that installs them bears the costs. I am sick of these soccer mom's in their big SUV's loaded down with babies and kids plowing thru red lights. I am sure other people do it too, but I notice the kids mostly, since they are in a peril for their lives. The other "adults" who do it, well I hope they get hurt, but not at the expense of a person who has the right of way and gets plowed over. It has become a major problem in my opinion. I have to sit and wait most of the time until all these idiots run the light on my dime. You'd think they are better than everyone and don't have to obey the traffic laws. Can you tell I am fed up with it?

Yea, Trvlace. I hear ya. And what's worse is when they have their brains buried in a cell phone.

We had this things back in arnold, MO.

All it is is a way for police to be more lazy.
They usually didn't work, i was wrongfully accused TWICE by these goofy things.

They like to randomly set off as they use simple IR beams to judge if you "ran" the red light, and if a bug decides to land on the IR posts you are screwed.

So whats to stop the city from changing the yellow lights from 6 seconds to 3? If they do there is nothing you can do about it and they rack up more money.

Sorry, i don't trust these things any more than the 16 year old that ran my el camino through with her excursion while she was on the cell phone.

As the mother of a new driver, I am pleased to see these cameras. I live very close to the Memorial/Northfield intersection and use it almost daily. When I'm stopped at the light, I see people running it from the other side on a regular basis. I'm concerned for my own safely but more so for my young driver who still doesn't see the "whole picture" as he drives.
