"“We’re at the point where if the council doesn’t approve this tonight, we will not be able to open the outdoor pool, which is one of our most popular venues in the city,” Goodwin said."
"Goodwin said adding a “water-park setting,” complete with a “sprayground,” water slides, an open lap pool and climbing wall, is necessary to attract more visitors."
So which is it, too many people or not enough. If its already so popular we don't need to spend any more money to add the water park, right? Fix the pool, I understand that, but agree to a water park that will go over budget, not too smart. Water parks are a private business and typically fail cause of costs.

How many years is it going to take to re-coop this $4.5 million? Let's see...The cost is $3 to get in so $3 divided by $4.5 million is about 1.5 million. So 1.5 million people would have to pay for admission to cover the cost...That's not counting the cost of operation....It's not making sense to me

I took my two children to the pool often this past summer and can say that the pool needed to be fixed. I, for one, am thrilled that they are going to add a water slide and a couple of other features to make it more attractive to our city's families who are currently going to Metro and paying them to play! While we do have Patterson Park pool, it will be nice to have an outdoor pool with more options. Thank you city council!

So they can either repair it or close it?
They choose not only to repair it, but to add more features, costing the taxpayers more money.
Can they not make the repairs and wait on the rest?
Why is it ok for government to continue spending obscene amounts of money while the taxpayers have to keep cutting back?

1.5 million people to pay it off? We all know that is not going to happen, however its the duty and responsibility of our lawmakers to aslo help increase the quality of life here in Murfreesboro. This improvement to Sports Com will not only bring in more and repeat visits, it will also encourage our community to spend more time outdoors, spend more times with friends and family, to be happy, and enjoy what our city offers. For businesses looking to relocate to the area, it shows that we care about our children, families, and community. I applaud this upgrade and can't wait to see you all out in the sun!

The bids seem way out of line. The way the economy is today, contractors should be willing to sharpen their pencil and get a more reasonable quote. There may be things that the city maintenance department can take on, after all, they are already on the payroll. You can raise sinking concrete decks by pumping in grout to hydraulically move them. Industry does this all the time. I'd suggest the city rebid the project. I'd like to have my tax money spent wisely.

I like Sportscom, but I dont like the crowds. People have been rude to me and my children when we come. An mine are not the ones running around acting like complete goofs!! My are the ones that get run over by the other kids. I would like to visit more often, but with the new additions, I think it's just going to be worse. An I also agree with the need to wait later for the additions. An who says they won't raise the cost of admition once these "improvements" are completed?? That's usually the way it works when the lawmakes make "improvements", Right??

It would be cheaper now to add the additions while they will already have contractors in place working. It's always harder to come back and remodel the remodel. It only makes sense to go ahead and do it now. And as far as them raising the admission price, I don't see that happening b/c sportscom and patterson have the same rates.

Wah, Wah, Wah... that's all I hear from most of the people that post on these articles. The way I see it you have two options. 1. Run for City Council and make your opinion and your vote known, 2. MOVE!!! I agree with BoroGuy...

So we should spend the money no matter what the cost on the perception that it will be used more and it will encourage the community to spend more time outdoors. I'm all for improving the community but I think it could be done cheaper. How about a re-bid process and make the bids public.

Well i think that the outdoor pool water attractions are gonna be very nice and bring in several people. It will pay off its cost of repairs in no time! Just think $3 a person... thats gonna add up! plus if people bring in their kids at $2 a piece. go figure....You gotta think that all the people that drive to nashville shores for the attractions such as water slides no longer have to drive there cause we have a local attraction now. The only concern of mine is how crowded it is gonna be when it opens. That is one reason why we do not go to nash. shores is due to how crowded they are. You have to wait in line forever in the hott sun just to go down a slide. I saw that someone mentioned earlier on the post about how crowded it usually is well now i think its only gonna get worse now with all the attractions. My son and i rode by there (sports com) earlier today and i will tell you its gonna be super nice. We are so ecxited and cant wait till it opens..
