Complaints of a church volunteer allegedly exposing himself to neighbors resulted in his arrest on an indecent exposure charge recently, according to a Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office press release.

James “Jim” Steverson, 65, of 113 Leonard Drive in Christiana, was charged after Detectives Lisa McCallum and Steve Craig observed his home about 10 a.m. Oct. 17 outside his home.

“In a matter of minutes, we observed Mr. Steverson come out to the (opened) garage, remove his clothing and begin to touch himself in a sexual manner,” Craig said. “I made contact with Mr. Steverson while he was in the act.”

During the investigation, McCallum learned Steverson was a volunteer at Christian Life Church in Murfreesboro. He sells life insurance at home.

Steverson was transported and booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, where he was released after posting a $3,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Rutherford County General Sessions Court.
