Chris Young
Chris Young is enjoying his rising fame.

Paparazzi aren’t following his every move with their camera lenses, but the Nashville Star winner and RCA recording artist is starting to get recognized on the street.

“It is kind of cool,” he said. “It is not something that happens 24 hours a day.”

But there are some things that come along with fame that the Murfreesboro native doesn’t know if he will ever get used to, like hearing his songs on the radio.

“It freaks you out in a good way,” Young said.

Hearing fans sing the lyrics to his songs during his shows is another thing that still catches Young off guard.

“It is probably the coolest thing that could happen on stage,” Young said. “The first time anyone sang my lyrics back to me, it freaked me out a little bit.

“I don’t ever think you get used to that,” he added. “You always appreciate it.”

Recently as he drove home from Nashville, Young spoke to The Murfreesboro Post about what life has been like since winning the nationally televised competition in May of last year. His self-titled debut album was released in October and featured the hit single “Drinking Me Lonely.”

Young is saying thanks to his local fans with several intimate performances slated for 3rd & Lindsley Bar & Grill in Nashville this summer. The hunky singer performed last Thursday and Friday at 3rd & Lindsley and the Grand Ole Opry, respectively, and he will perform again at 3rd & Lindsley July 25 and Aug. 16 and 30.

He said there are so many locals who want an opportunity to see him perform live that he wants to give them a chance to see a full show in a smaller venue.

Locals should expect to hear Young perform new songs that could appear on his forthcoming new album. A meet and greet will follow each 3rd & Lindlsey show.

Wendy Bryant, who works at the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, is a card-carrying member of Young’s fan club.

“I have every one of his songs on my iPod,” she said. “He is homegrown talent. You have to support your local folks.”

Bryant had often seen Young perform locally before he entered the Nashville Star competition. She went to almost every taping of the competition show.

Besides being a local guy, Bryant said she is a Young fan because of the “rich, smooth tone to his voice.
“He reminds me a lot of the classic country singers,” she said.

Bryant hopes to be in the crowd for at least one of Young’s shows this summer.

Young feels blessed that he is able to do what he loves for a living, and he is using his rising fame to give back to his local community.

He appears in a promotional video for the Convention and Visitors Bureau of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce.

Mona Herring, vice president of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, said Young is a well-known country music star and was used in the video as a way of promoting Rutherford County’s proximity to Nashville.

The tourism video that highlights Rutherford County’s main tourism attractions, quality of life, accommodations and history will be sent out to group tour leaders and convention and meeting planners.

Performing in front of a crowd that enjoys his music, Young said, is one of the best feelings in the world.

He expects to be on the road 250 to 275 days this year performing 120 full-band shows across the country.

“It is something that I just really enjoy doing,” he said of being on the road. “I get to see different parts of the country. I get to see people who are into my music that I wouldn’t otherwise be able to see.”

Young said he is always writing music, but he soon will start writing more heavily as it gets closer to time to begin recording his new album.

“We are actually getting geared up to do that,” he said. “We will have new music out by the beginning of next year.”

I do like Chris Young very much, but I am confused...he says he wanted to put on a show for his "local" fans, but he performed this gig in Nashville.why did he not do this in Murfreesboro?????..I thought when he said locals, he was referring to Murfreesboro..I guess we are not considered his only locals anymore...it would just be nice to see him come and perform for his "real" locals...here in the Boro...

I do wish him much success...I do love his music, just wish he would come to the Boro more....:)
