An Illinois woman died when the Dodge Ram truck she rode in crashed into a disabled tractor-trailer about 9:54 p.m. Friday on Interstate 24, a state trooper reported.

Passenger Noel J. Gaston, 47, of Chicago died in the two-vehicle crash at the 86-mile marker eastbound between the Joe B. Jackson Parkway and Buchanan Road exits, reported Trooper Michael Morgan. Driver Paul Hypolite, 41, of Chicago suffered injuries. He was taken to Middle Tennessee Medical Center.

Tractor-trailer driver Christopher W. Arnett, 28, of Phenix City, Ala., was not hurt, the trooper reported.

The tractor-trailer was disabled on the right shoulder when Hypolite veered off to the right and struck the tractor-trailer, Morgan reported. The truck hauled general freight.

No charges were filed but the investigation will be presented to the district attorney’s office. Routine blood-alcohol tests were requested of Hypolite.

Gaston is the 11th traffic fatality this year in Rutherford County.
