Channel honored by national group

Murfreesboro’s Channel 3 received several national awards from the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) at a Sept. 20 ceremony for the 23rd annual Government Programming Awards. “This recognition would not have been possible without the support and vision of the city council, city administration, and the Murfreesboro Cable Commission to create the department and channel which became operational in 1993,” Cable Television Coordinator Alan Bozeman said. Cable Television Department/The City Channel, located on Comcast cable channel 3, Murfreesboro’s government television station brought home a third place award for a Parks and Recreation Department program produced by John Padgett in the category for Profile of a City Department, and an honorable mention for Gun Safety, a program produced by Marcus Delaney and Steve Burris in the category for Public Safety. “The awards recognize excellence in broadcast, cable, multi-media and electronic programming produced by local government agencies,” NATOA’s release states. “For the 64 award categories, NATOA received over 1,200 entries from local governments in more than 30 states across the country and Canada.” NATOA is a nonprofit professional association whose mission is to support and serve the telecommunications interest and needs of local governments. NATOA is made up of individuals and organizations responsible for advising those responsible for telecommunications polices and services in local governments throughout the country.
