Murfreesboro is on its way to getting a visitors’ center and new home for the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce.

Dignitaries from across the county were on hand Friday to break ground on the new Carol Martin “Bill” Gatton Visitors’ Center and Chamber of Commerce building.

The building will be three floors, with a visitors’ center and convention bureau on the first floor, and Chamber of Commerce offices, and expansion space on the second and third floors.

The visitor center will be located on a triangular shaped-parcel bounded by Wilkinson Pike, Medical Center Parkway and Gresham Park Drive.

The visitors’ center will include interactive displays featuring Rutherford County’s history and heritage.

The center cost an estimated $6.9 million, paid for in part by a $3.3 million Tennessee Department of Transportation grant to the city and a $2 million grant for the Chamber portion.

Who is Carol Martin Gatton ??????????

Mr. Gatton donated the property for the new Chamber facility. He also played a key role in the land development where The Avenue and Embassy Suites now stand.

I thought the bid for this center was $5.1 million. How has it grown to $6.9 million? Who is paying the extra $1.6 million that is needed?

What is wromg with the Chamber facility we have now it looks like new? I was under the impression we had a budget problem?

Goverment got money to burn Sitting Bull,no budget is a problem when you have the ability to RAISE TAXES.

They will just take the $1.6 million more it will cost from the school budget. Then they will raise taxes and say the schools need it.

Hope this new chamber means these people will actually work and bring some real jobs to our county and less retail.

The Chamber has outgrown thier existing building and this building is a combination
welome center, visitor's center, and chamber building combined into one building.
It will be a tremendous asset to Rutherford County and something we will all be proud of once complete.
