Auditions set for ‘Enchanted April’

The Center for the Arts announced auditions for its next production in its 2009 season, “Enchanted April,” directed by Andrew Ford.

Auditions will be held Feb. 1 and 2 at 6 p.m. at the center. Director Ford is looking for five women ages 20 to 70 and 3 men ages 20 to 50 to round out the cast. The auditions will consist of cold readings and improvised situations.

“Enchanted April” is the story of two frustrated London housewives who decide to rent a villa in Italy for a holiday away from their bleak marriages. There they recruit two very different English women to share the cost and the experience. There, among the wisteria blossoms and Mediterranean sunshine, all four bloom again—rediscovering themselves in ways that they could never have expected.

Observations opens gallery season

Observations is an exhibit of 10 local artists at the Center for the Arts.

The artwork presents a dazzling array of subjects ranging from a beloved president, the Beatles and contemporary musicians, the world around us and the imagination. This exhibit includes traditional oil paintings, collage, mixed media, and pen on paper and paint on Styrofoam.

“Many viewers have told me this has been their favorite exhibit of the year,” said Jennifer Richardson, curator. “We have a variety of subjects and styles – some with more than a hint of graphic design. There is truly something for everyone to appreciate and identify with in this exhibit.”

Gallery hours are 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

‘Joseph’ continues at Center

“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” an inspirational, colorful musical by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, is directed by the Center for the Art’s Jesse Cannady. The musical continues to Feb. 1.

Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock 'n' roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless.

The cast is comprised of 20 high school and university students. Leading the cast is Scott Willis as Joseph and Katye Brock as the Narrator. The Center for the Arts partnered with the Discovery School of Murfreesboro to feature a large children’s choir. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and $8 for children ages 12 and under.

The Center for the Arts is located at 110 West College Street, one block off the historic Murfreesboro Square. For more information or to reserve tickets, phone 904-2787 or log onto www.BoroArts.org.
