The Center for the Arts, near Murfreesboro's Square, is set to open its 2010 Broadway in the Boro season this Friday with The Jungle Book, a musical based on the beloved Disney classic by the same title.
The musical adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's classic story is set deep in the heart of the jungle, where Mowgli, played by Zavier Phillips, is raised by wolves, when Shere Kahn (D.J. Whittaker) the tiger decides that Mowgli is no longer welcomed in there. But Bagheera, the panther, (Scott McPherson) decides to guide him to the safety of the man village.
With a stunningly talented cast of Middle Tennesseans of all ages (over 80 in total) and the direction of stage veteran Michael McGee, The Jungle Book will start the seaon off with a high energy bang.
"Nonprofits are really feeling the crunch right now," admits the Center's Executive Director Tony Cimino. "But as long as the community continues to buy tickets, or even better, buys a season ticket, we will continue to grow and make them proud."
Season tickets include VIP seating at all 7 shows in the season, including The Jungle Book, The Odd Couple, Bye Bye Birdie, Oliver, Gypsy, Lil' Abner and Scrooge. Subscriptions are only $60 for adults, and $50 for seniors and military and $40 for children under 12. At each performance, season subscribers may choose their seats in the auditorium prior to general admission seating.
