Memorial Weekend May 27 – 30
All programs are free and open to the public.
Friday, May 27
2:30pm Life of a “Lep” Butterflies and Moths are some of Nature’s most unique insects. Let’s get an up-close look at caterpillars and coccoons, discuss the life cycle of Lepidopterans (butterflies and moths), and go for an easy walk to look for these winged wonders. Meet Tyler at the Nature Center!
5:00pm Guided Cedar Forest Trail Hike Meet at the trailhead to the Cedar Forest (2mile) trail for a hike guided by a park naturalist. Come equipped with water, sturdy shoes, long pants, and bug spray. Under 10 accompanied by an adult.
7:00pm Nature Movie Come to the Nature Center theatre and be entertained by an amazing nature-themed movie! (Run time 1hour30minutes.) Maybe learn something, too!
Saturday, May 28
11:00am Nature Games Meet Natalie at the Nature Center to play Nature Bingo. The garden is your bingo-caller, and you have to hunt for clues using all your senses to make a bingo! All ages.
2:00pm Meet “Elvis” At the Nature Center meet Elvis, our resident Speckled Kingsnake! Learn all about Elvis and her serpentine friends.
3:30—5:00pm Old Time Games At the softball field, meet Jennifer and Natalie to play the games of yesteryear. You’ll be amazed at how much fun your great grandparents made out of string and wood!
Sunday, May 29
2:00—4:00pm DIY Star Guides Meet Jennifer at the Camp Store to make your very own star guides. Learn how to spot and identify those heavenly bodies in the night sky. All ages.
7:45 —9:00pm Stargazing Meet at the Nature Center to take a short walk into our field. This is your chance to use those star guides with the help of our park naturalists. Let’s find some planets and constellations and share some of their mythological origins, as well as scientific facts. Bring a flashlight, water, and bug spray! All ages, under 18 accompanied by adult.
Monday, May 30
10:00am Cave and Karst Talk and Walk At the park, when you are admiring the flowers on the trails or playing on the field, do you ever stop to think about the secret world deep underneath your feet? Learn about our amazing caves, cave animals and water features with the naturalists at the Nature Center. (No cave tours possible at this time due to White Nose Syndrome.)
1:00—3:00pm Yarn Dolls Stop by the Camp Store to make your own pioneer-era yarn dolls. All ages.
*In case of RAIN: meet at the Nature Center for an alternative activity*
