In light of the growing concern over the impending effect date of the recently passed Worker’s Compensation bill (P.C. 1041) Rep. Joe Carr (R-Lascassas) has announced that he will be hosting a Town Hall Forum on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 8:30-10am at the Slick Pig Restaurant located on East Main Street.

"As we all know we are experiencing some very challenging economic times. With a recession and an unemployment rate over 10 percent, times are difficult for small businesses in Middle Tennessee. That is why I am announcing this town hall meeting to discuss solutions for small contracting business that could potentially suffer as a result of the implementation of P.C.1041,” said Rep. Carr.

The purpose of this Forum is to give information to local business owners and contractors regarding this issue so we all know how best to proceed once the law takes effect at midnight, December 31st. However, all who are interested are invited to attend.

Rep. Carr added, “In an effort to bring some real solutions to this growing problem, I have asked Representative Judd Matheny, Chairman of the Consumer and Employee Affairs Committee, Kris Parkhurst of Dempsey, Vantrease & Follis Certified Public Accountants, and Mark Pody of Nationwide Insurance to attend to help answer questions on how small business will be affected by the new law and what business owners can do to minimize the negative effects until we are able to change the law.”

Good for Joe. Finally, a representative who is willing to meet face to face with we the people and, if necessary, take the heat. Joe advances a notch on my respect meter.
