I think that this move will be a good thing for Middle Tennessee State University. Conference USA is a wider nationally known conference than the Sun Belt. This will lead to more national notoriety for the school. The Sun Belt Conference, while still competitive, is not an extremely well-known or prestigious conference. Also, this move will infuse new opponents into MTSU’s sports schedules, but also will include some familiar Sun Belt opponents. The school will not lose rivalries such as Florida International, Florida Atlantic, and North Texas. However, there will be a good number of new opponents in the conference to give the MTSU fans something to look forward to. Students and fans will get to see new MTSU face new teams like: Rice, UAB, UTEP, Tulsa, Louisiana Tech, and Marshall. This will lead to higher levels of competition. In baseball, MTSU will get to face Rice, which has made many NCAA Tournaments in the past few years. It will also lead to tougher competition in basketball, which MTSU has proven to be dominant at in the past few years in the Sun Belt. I think that overall this is a great move for the university, and it will lead to bigger and brighter things in the future.
