What does your company produce? Hope. United Way is a charity charged with the fund-raising task for 45 partner agencies and programs. We run many business campaigns that allow employees to donate through payroll deduction, plus many businesses use United Way as a charity of choice to make donations to the community. We also have many individual donors, and our job is to be good stewards of the money entrusted to us and work with volunteers to allocate based on the needs of the community to make the greatest impact.
What is your basic business philosophy? Open, honest communication coupled with great partnerships with our agencies and our donors.
What is your proudest business achievement? Completing a great 29-year career with Atmos Energy and finding that I still have time to pursue an opportunity with United Way and be a positive impact on my community.
What led you to Murfreesboro? Grew up in Murfreesboro, moved away with Atmos Energy for 24 years and had the opportunity to move back three and a half years ago.
What is your educational background? Graduate of Oakland High School, attended MTSU and graduated from New River Community College with a degree in marketing
Where are you originally from? Murfreesboro is home!
What do you do for fun? Follow MTSU sports and tinker in my shop
Tell us about your family: Wife Pat, two daughters Kacey and Olivia and two step sons Michael and Stuart Jones
Who was your mentor? Many people have influenced my life. Two that stand out for me are Hal Christiansen (first employer) and Bob Elam (employer and friend) in my work life, and in my personal life my father, John Hercules |
