What does your company produce? We teach martial arts to people from the ages of 3 years to 93 years. Our children's program is based on working on a child's self control, discipline, goal setting and listening skills, while engaging them in needed physical activity. Adults involved in traditional karate, or cardio kickboxing, are learning practical, hard hitting self defense in a clean, safe atmosphere, while getting into the best shape of their lives.
What is your basic business philosophy? Teach traditional martial arts in a manner that allows the student to transcend the physical nature of the activity. Children learn valuable life skills, while learning how to defend themselves, and adults get into great shape while relieving the stresses of everyday life.
What is your proudest business achievement? We received the Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Business Ethics, a few years ago. I was very proud of that. But I think the thing I am proudest of is the way the Murfreesboro community has embraced our program. Our school has come a LONG way from our little 1500-square-foot dojo on Vine St. in 1973!
What led you to Murfreesboro? I have lived in Murfreesboro all of my life. I love this city.
What is your educational background? I graduated from Oakland High School and then earned a BS from MTSU
Where are you originally from? Homegrown!
What do you do for fun? I like to do most anything outside. I enjoy being outside fishing or hunting. I also like boating and skiing. Reading would also be one of my favorite ways to relax.
Tell us about your family: I have been married to the love of my life, Jennifer for 10 years. We have two very active boys. Diego is four and Gabriel will be 2 in February.
Who was your mentor? In business, a good friend of mine and school owner from Colorado Springs, Col., named Garland Johnson. He is a very successful businessman and a great human being. He is always sending me great ideas on how to grow my schools, and better serve my students. In my personal life, I would have to say my father.
