Police charged a suspect with burglary after the owner spotted him inside an apartment Sunday on East College Street.
Suspect Bryan Czerwinski, 24, Wildwood Crest, New Jersey, was charged with two counts of aggravated burglary and attempted aggravated burglary, vandalism over $500, vandalism under $500 and assault on an officer for trying to bite Detective John Singleton, Detective Richard Presley reported.
Officer Brandon Benge reported owner Eben Frizzell received a call about 4:30 a.m. from a tenant who believed someone broke into the rental apartments. When Frizzell saw a man walk past the door, he notified police.
Officer Matthew Garrett apprehended Czerwinski.
Two women told Garrett the suspect tried several times to kick in the door. Both women were scared they would be assaulted. A man in another apartment reported the man tried to kick in his door but he was afraid to look outside.
The burglary resulted in more than $500 damage but no property was taken.
Presley reported when detectives prepared to question Czerwinski, he flipped over the interview table in the room and tried to bite Singleton.
The suspect was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where a hearing was set Feb. 9 in General Sessions Court.
In another home burglary, Officer Joshua Borel reported victim Kapatheia Witherspoon of East State Street was asleep about 2 a.m. Sunday when she heard a noise in her living room and saw a man leaving.
Her television was missing, Borel reported. She saw a vehicle pulling away and chased the suspect.
Police found her fighting with the suspect at the intersection of State Street and Highland Avenue.
In an unrelated case, burglars stole 16 Michelin tires Sunday from a storage trailer owned by Tire World on Memorial Boulevard, Officer David Kelch reported. Loss was set at $2,000.
