Smyrna residents were on a vacation provided by the children’s Make-A-Wish Foundation in San Diego Thursday when burglars broke into their home, the police spokesman reported.

Smyrna Police Department responded about 12:40 a.m. to a burglary in progress at a residence inside our city, Sgt. Bobby Gibson reported. Upon arrival, officers witnessed the suspects fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

A brief pursuit ensued until the vehicle stopped. One passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot while the other two occupants were taken into custody.

The suspect that fled on foot was later apprehended at another residence. The victims of the burglary were in San Diego on a vacation provided to them by the Make-A-Wish Foundation. It is apparent the suspects had knowledge the victims would not be home.

Two of the suspects are adults and one suspect is a juvenile. The juvenile was charged with aggravated burglary and theft. Adult Demarcus Latrey Thompson, 18, was charged with aggravated burglary, theft and resisting arrest. The other adult, Kerron Montez McCroskey, 18,  was charged with aggravated burglary and theft.

There are two other suspects still at large. Their identity is unknown at this time. Hearings for the adults are pending in Smyrna General Sessions Court.

Knowing they got caught is the best part of this story. I just can't imagine how disastrous this would be to just about anyone, let alone a family that has a child that's ill.

This is absolutely horrible. What is wrong with people these days? I've personally worked with Make-A-Wish,and these families are the sweetest people you could ever wish to meet. I'm glad that they got their wish granted. I hope the people responsible for this sit in jail for a long time. I'm thrilled that they were caught.

I assume the victims had alarms. Thank God I have nosey neighbors.

Great the story had a happy ending. I am sure the other two will be given up soon, honor among thieves doesn't really exist in numbers.
