Burglars steal jewelry, DVDs

Burglars broke into several houses over the weekend, stealing jewelry and televisions, sheriff’s deputies reported.

About $3,900 worth of property was stolen from Lara Harkin of Nimbus Drive, deputies reported. Missing items included a .380-caliber handgun, boxing gloves, flat screen television, diamond jewelry and 300 DVDs.

In another case, Deputy Stephen Lewis reported burglars stole two computers and two printers from Jose Valenzuela of Lowe Road. Value was estimated at $2,200.

Deputy David Foote reported thieves stole about $4,000 worth of copper wiring at a house under construction on Burks Hollow Road.

Deputy Daniel Thomas reported fire destroyed a vacant house early Sunday morning on Cheatham Avenue in Smyrna.

Owner James D. Kennedy of Green Hill Street in Murfreesboro estimated loss at $110,000, Thomas reported. Maintenance workers checked the house last month after the last resident was evicted.

Detective Randy Groce is investigating.
