Burglar frightens family Sunday at home

Three family members experienced fear Sunday when a man allegedly tried to break into their home off U.S. Highway 41 South (Manchester Highway), a sheriff’s deputy reported.

Jacqueline Marshall and her children were inside about 11:50 a.m. at their Melstone Court home when they saw a man trying to break into their door, Deputy Nick Coble reported. Marshall screamed “No,” slammed the door and locked it before calling the sheriff’s office. The suspect rode away on a blue bicycle.

When Coble arrived, the mother, son and daughter appeared fearful.

Sgt. Jon Frazier and Deputy Luis Parra-Flores talked to witnesses in the neighborhood. They tracked the suspect to his home where they found a gray hoodie he wore and a bluish-colored bicycle.

Suspect Nicholas A. Trowel, 19, of Mt. Tabor Road was charged with aggravated burglary. He was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where a hearing was set Jan. 14 in General Sessions Court.

In another burglary, Deputy Kenny Smith reported Saturday burglars removed about $3,000 worth of firearms and property from Kerry Wilkins of Mt. Vernon Road near Eagleville.

Property missing included night vision binoculars, a cross bow, .22-caliber rifle, two shotguns and a .40-caliber handgun.

Detective Chris Owens is investigating.

In an unrelated case, Deputy Pat Garrett reported Thursday burglars stole about $4,500 in property from Jason Tucker of Drew Street near Smyrna.

Items stolen were a women’s wedding band, diamond engagement ring and digital camera.

Detective Bryant Gregory is investigating.

Deputy Mark Gregory reported burglars removed about $6,800 in property Friday from a garage owned by Mike Walpole of Browns Mill Road near Lascassas.

Some of the property taken included two carburetors, saws, a drill set, wrench and a nitrous injector set.

In another Eagleville burglary, Deputy Smith reported Friday burglars damaged a television and a window and stole about $3,600 worth of property from Donald Lester’s home on Rocky Glade Road.

Missing property included DVDs, a jar of change, 18-inch gold chain necklace, gold wedding ring, .44-calbier Navy Colt revolver, two muzzle loaders, 12-gauge shotgun, two rifles, a 9-shot pistol, pump rifle and a 20-gauge shotgun.
