A burglar wearing a ski mask grabbed a sleeping woman’s throat and ordered her to the bathroom of her home about 1 a.m. Tuesday near MTSU, Murfreesboro Police reported.

The 20-year-old woman who lives on Fourth Avenue was sleeping when the man pulled the blanket off her face and turned on a light, Officer Brad Premo reported. He grabbed her throat and told her to be quiet and go into the bathroom and no harm would come to her.

She yelled for her friend who was upstairs, causing the man to flee, the officer reported. The burglar apparently stole a pink iPod from the living room and rifled through the woman’s purse.

Detective Sgt. Joel Davis and Detectives Ed Gorham and James Abbott responded to the scene to take over the investigation.

In an unrelated case, Officer Bob Sinising reported a resident grabbed his BB gun and shone the laser on a burglar before the burglar fled late Monday night from his home off state Route 99 (New Salem Highway).

Aaron Groldau of Spottswood Circle reported the sound of his dogs barking and his alarm alerted him, Sinising reported. He grabbed his BB gun and walked downstairs where he saw something moving.

“He saw it was a black male about 5-foot-8 and 200 pounds wearing a black toboggan, black jacket, a red shirt and dark colored jeans,” Sinising reported. “Graldau stated he then pointed his BB gun that had a red laser on it at the male subject.”

The man ran out the back door and down the street, getting into a 1989-90 Cutlass Supreme with 20- to 22-inch rims.

Nothing was reported missing.

People who have information on the suspects may call Crime Stoppers at 893-STOP or the Criminal Investigations Division at 893-2717.

Also, Officer Chris Waters charged suspect Jacob Wendell Kado, 29, of 915 Harrison Ave. with aggravated burglary, possession of Schedule II drug, assault on an officer and resisting arrest.

Kado was accused of breaking into Kapatheia Witherspoon’s East State Street home about 2 a.m. Sunday. She chased the man who was later identified as Kado. Officers Waters and Jason Borel found them wrestling over a baseball bat. He was taken to Middle Tennessee Medical Center for treatment.

At the hospital, Waters accused Kado of striking him when he was arrested.

Kado was charged and booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. A hearing is set March 19 in General Sessions Court.

Did the woman leave the door unlocked?

People leave their doors unlocked and then complain.

Come to my home and it won't be a BB gun, and you won't have the ability to run out the back door and get into your Cutlass Supreme with rims.

Aaron needs to trade that BB gun in for a shotgun.
