Bulletin: Riverdale claims Girls State berth



Riverdale blasted a physical Cleveland team, 62-41, Saturday night at home to claim a berth in the TSSAA Girls State Tournament here next week.

The Lady Warriors, 27-2, relied on strong three-point shooting, knocking down 11, and tenacious defense to produce numerous turnovers to take the win.

Leading 25-14 at halftime,Riverdale came out strong in the third quarter to build what turned out to be an insurmountable lead.

Jaclissa Haislip nailed six threes in leading Riverdale in scoring with 21 total. Shacobia Barbee had 12, drawing lots of physical attention from Cleveland

Blackman lost a tough game on the road to Walker Valley, 42-38, finishing the season at 22-8. Last year Blackman beat Walker Valley on the road to claim a state berth.

Middle Tennessee Christian School fell to Wayne County, 58-53.

The draw for the Division I Girls’ Championships will be made on Sunday, March 7 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in Murfreesboro at 2 p.m.

The Girls State starts Wednesday and runs through Saturday.
