Early Friday morning, Murfreesboro Water and Sewer received a call about a broken main just off the Square.

Around 3 a.m., a water main break in the 200 block of College Street (between Maple and Walnut) was reported to the Murfreesboro Water and Sewer Department, MWSD Director Joe Kirchner said.

“Department crews were onsite by 4 a.m. and began isolating the break and excavating an area of pavement that was displaced about six inches. A 20-foot section of 8-inch, cast-iron pipe was split. Crews cut out the broken pipe and replaced it,” he said.

Water service was restored beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Crews continue to work in the area removing pavement, backfilling the excavated area and patching the pavement.

The work should continue through Friday morning and into the afternoon.

Avoid College Street between Maple and Walnut if possible.
