The City of Murfreesboro has taken another step to becoming more customer friendly.

City Manager Rob Lyons announced Tuesday he has selected Shannon Logan to serve as the service excellence coordinator for the city.

According to Lyons, Logan will have three main responsibilities: customer service training, liaison for development projects and increasing our civic engagement efforts.

“Ms. Logan will also develop a ‘one-stop shop’ track for large development projects or projects that are being led by someone unfamiliar with the development process, such as a small business person planning a building addition,” Lyons explained. “The one-stop shop process will result in the Service Excellence Coordinator serving as the single point of contact through the plans review, construction and inspection process.”

She will also identify “opportunities to improve or to provide (city employees with) new tools to deal with difficult situations” by heading customer service training, Lyons said.

The city and its administration would also like to encourage citizen participation in the governmental process.

Currently Murfreesboro keeps citizens informed and seeks community participation through several methods, including the programming on CityTV, citizen police and fire academies, neighborhood meetings and through Facebook and the city’s website.

“We want to look for ways that can expand opportunities for residents to provide their ideas and vision about the future of our great city,” said Lyons.

Logan will perform these tasks from the city manager’s office.

A native of Asheville, N.C., Logan is an experienced planner, having worked in the field for 11 years.

Prior to joining Murfreesboro’s Planning Department in 2006, Logan, a University of Kentucky graduate, worked for the Brentwood and Gallatin planning departments.
