The 9th annual Heroes of Conservation Awards gala will be held in Washington DC on Sept. 17, and after a nationwide search, Murfreesboro’s very own Ron Crabtree was chosen as one of six who will be honored.

The awards, hosted by the world’s leading outdoor magazine, Field & Stream, celebrates every day heroes who are leading the charge of change with their passion and dedication to protecting fish and wildlife habitat across the country.

Crabtree first grabbed the attention of conservation leaders after lobbying for Murfreesboro’s habitat needs and enrolling landowners in conservation programs to benefit birds.

At this year’s gala, Crabtree, along with five other nominees, will be recognized for their outstanding work and presented with a $5,000 grant. One of the six will be named the Conservation Hero of the Year, and Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., the exclusive sponsor of the program since its inception, will award the winner a brand new Toyota Tundra.

Videos documenting the work of each of the finalists are being showcased on, with new videos being posted each week from now until the gala.
