Murfreesboro planners approved initial design plans for the 318-unit apartment complex planned for Beesley Road near the under construction state Route 840 interchange during its regular meeting Wednesday.

Final decision review on the plans is scheduled for August.

Shannon Logan, planner, city of Murfreesboro, said the planning commissions wants to see more brick on the buildings that are visible from its entrance and along Veterans Parkway (formerly Beesley Road).

Developer WP East Development Enterprises LLC. is proposing brick and horizontal and shake hardiboard siding on the apartment buildings.

Initial design plans for 27,627 square feet of retail space in phase two of The Oaks Shopping Center located at the corner of Medical Center Parkway and Thompson Lane was approved Wednesday.

Final design review is slated for August.

Plans were originally approved in 2006, but approval has since lapsed.

Parkes Group, the developer, has proposed some modifications to the buildings.

Planners set an Aug. 6 public hearing date for an amendment to a planned unit development called Hillwood to be located along Franklin Road. The meeting is slated for 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers of Murfreesboro City Hall at 111 W. Vine St.

Developer ParkTrust wants to amend plans for the development by adding an automobile wash as a permitted use. The anticipated tenant is Super Speed Wash.

The 101.7-acre property was annexed in 2007 and was zoned PUD in early 2008.

Hillwood is expected to be made up of additional retail fronting Franklin Road near Franklin Road Baptist Church.

Approximately 219 single-family homes, 145 townhouses and a 354-unit apartment complex are included in approved plans for the development.
