The Certificate of Achievement of Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Murfreesboro by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).
This is the 10th consecutive year the award has been presented to Murfreesboro for excellence in financial reporting.
The award is made to select governments by an impartial panel because they meet the high standards of the GFOA program including demonstration of a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’ to clearly communicate their financial stories.
The Certificate of Achievement in Financial Reporting is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting the financial reporting, according to GFOA, and its attainment represents the highest and best among government and management accomplishments.
A commemorative plaque will be mailed to the City of Murfreesboro and its Tax and Finance Department, now led by director and City Recorder Melissa Wright, who was promoted earlier this year to fill the shoes of James. B. Penner, who retired at the first of this year.
GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 16,000 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, Ill. and Washington, D.C.
