Blue Raiders sign Division I transfer

The Blue Raider baseball team has added outfielder and first baseman Jay Morris to its 2010 class as announced by head coach Steve Peterson.

Morris will transfer to Middle Tennessee after playing three seasons at New Orleans and will have one year of eligibility remaining. Morris will not have to sit out a season due to the NCAA transfer rule because New Orleans is dropping down to Division III next season.

As a junior, Morris batted .248 with 29 hits and 15 RBI in 35 games. Morris scored 13 runs for the Privateers and received 14 base on balls.

"Jay is a left handed hitter who will supply us with an experienced hitter who can play first base and outfield. He is a welcome addition to all the people we lost to graduation or the draft. To bring in a player with proven experience at the Division I level is a plus especially since he is left-handed.," Peterson said.

In 2009, Morris led the Privateers at the plate batting .362 and ended the season with a .443 on-base percentage. He also led the team with 25 multiple hit games and was hitting .450 in early April of that season.

The Blue Raiders have now inked 10 student-athletes for the 2010 class.
