WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.), a member of the Committee on Ways and Means, released the following statement after being named to the Oversight and Human Resources subcommittees:

“As one of only two members of the freshman class to be selected to serve on the Committee on Ways and Means, I look forward to immersing myself in the issues of these subcommittees and working with their respective chairmen. I am eager as a member of the Oversight subcommittee to give the health care law signed by President Obama last year the full analysis the American people deserve. The health care law must be shown for what it is—a bill that increases premiums for families, hinders job creation and is filled with many more unintended consequences that not only diminish the quality of our health care system, but also does great damage to our economy.

“On the Human Resources subcommittee, I hope to continue my work as a champion for at-risk children.  As a member of the State Senate, I worked to change our state laws to speed up the adoption process so children could be placed in a permanent home more quickly. And one of my proudest moments was the Nurse-Family Partnership pilot program implemented across the state to reduce the infant mortality rate in Tennessee.”

Through her role as a member of Ways and Means, Black was also chosen to be one of only three committee members to serve as a liaison to the House Budget Committee, where she will take part in the drafting of the annual House budget.
