After being released from a local hospital on her own recognizance, a 52-year-old woman apparently decided to take a nap in a parking space reserved for pregnant women outside of Wal-Mart.
Authorities responded to Wal-Mart just before 12:30 a.m. after a customer noticed the woman but was unsure of her condition, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department arrest report filed by Officer Hector Montalvo.
“I responded to 2000 Old Fort Parkway for a person sleeping in a parking space,” Montalvo said in the report. “Upon my arrival, I made contact with the individual … who was lying down in an expecting mother parking space.”
When Montalvo asked her why she was sleeping there, the woman said she had just been released from Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital. Yet, the Chicago native could not explain how she wound up at Wal-Mart.
“(The woman) had an odor of an intoxicant about her person,” Montalvo said, noting she also exhibited other signs that made him suspect she was drunk.
During his investigation, the woman eventually “admitted to drinking a short time before” officers arrived at the scene, at which point she was taken into custody.
The woman was then transported to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, where she was charged with public intoxication. She has since been released from jail on a $250 bond.
