Police have yet to figure out why a woman claimed an evil entity had invaded her South Rutherford Boulevard residence Monday and insisted that medical personnel take her to the hospital for a drug test, even though it had been weeks since she smoked marijuana.

Just before 6 p.m., officers were called to University Gables at College Park in reference to possible suicidal thoughts after receiving word from the 19-year-old was behaving oddly, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report.

“Upon arrival, I mad contact with (the complainant) who stated that her niece was exhibiting strange behavior,” Officer Michael Levy reported. “Contact was made with (the niece) at her apartment. (The woman) advised that there was an evil spirit named ‘Preston’ in her closet, then in her car, and that she wanted to go to the hospital to be tested for hemp.”

Levy reported he asked the woman when was the last time she smoked marijuana, to which she replied, “a month ago.”

“(The woman) appeared visibly frightened and stated she felt like she was going crazy,” Levy reported, adding he then spoke with another complainant who said the woman had not been seen since early December.

“But, he had been speaking with her regularly via telephone,” Levy reported. “(The man) stated that over the past two days, (she) had not been making sense and (had made) irrational statements.”

Although some worried the woman was suicidal, Levy reported that she never made any such comments. In fact, the woman was actually in fear for her life because of the spirit.

Given the odd circumstances, emergency medical personnel were called to the scene and transported her to the hospital for a mental and physical evaluation.

At this time, Levy reported, “it is unknown if the behavior is brought on by narcotic use.”
