A week later, police are still trying figure out why a 55-year-old crying woman ran outside nude and eventually locked herself in the bathroom of her residence in the 1300 block of North Rutherford Boulevard.
The incident occurred Nov. 9 at about 9:15 a.m. in the Rutherford Woodlands Apartments complex, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report.
“I made contact with the property manager and courtesy officer who stated that the resident had been coming in and out of her apartment nude and screaming,” Officer Erica Brinkley reported. “I tried making contact with (the woman) by knocking on the door, but she would not answer.”
After further investigation, Brinkley determined that the woman did not appear to be harmful to others, so she was unable to forcibly enter the apartment, according to the report.
“(The manager) then retrieved an extra key to the apartment,” Brinkley reported, “and she and (the courtesy officer) made entry to check on the welfare of (the woman). They were able to make contact through a locked bathroom door but stated she sounded disoriented and was still screaming.”
Rutherford County Adult Services was also notified of the situation, at which point emergency medical personnel also responded to the scene.
“Once medical (personnel) arrived, they also entered the apartment and began pleading with (the woman) to come out of the locked bathroom,” Brinkley reported, adding EMTs eventually kicked the bathroom door down to gain entry.
The woman was then transported to Middle Tennessee Medical Center to be evaluated and treated.
As of Friday, no charges had been filed against the woman, and the matter remains under investigation.
