Police were called Dec. 28 to West McKnight Drive after a man came home from work and discovered that his mailbox, along with several others in the area, had been tampered with by an unknown number of suspects.

“I was dispatched to West McKnight Drive in reference to theft of mail,” Officer Daniel McCollum reported in a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report. “Upon arrival, I spoke with (the complainant). He stated that when he came home from work, he noticed that several mailboxes had been opened and there was pieces of open mail on the ground.”

As he looked around, McCollum reported that he noticed several pieces of mail had been scattered on the ground on West McKnight Drive, as well as near several homes on Allen Avenue.

“I notified Detective Tommy Massey and advised him of the issue,” McCollum reported. “He came to the area, and I collected the discarded mail and placed it into evidence.”

Although officers tried to make contact with nearby residents whose mail had been opened, several were not home.

So, McCollum left notification detailing the incident with each person affected by the incident.
