Bizarre in the 'Boro

The following "bizarre" reports were on file last week with Murfreesboro Police.

A man who was caught urinating outside of a bar in downtown Murfreesboro was arrested when he cursed at police, even after they told him he would not be taken into custody as long as he left with a designated driver.

"(The man) was being talked to by the staff (at Social) as we walked over," Officer Keith Sanders reported. "None of the officers present spoke directly to him. … (The man) asked several times if he was being detained. … I found his questions to be odd because we had not engaged in conversation, and our response was, 'Yes, you are free to leave.'"

However, the intoxicated man refused to listen to the officers, and he continued to berate them about being harassed by the Murfreesboro Police Department. The man then proceeded to demand to speak with a shift supervisor about the matter.

"He made a somewhat threatening comment that tomorrow I would be in trouble," Sanders reported. "Officers then told the friend to take him home. As they walked off, (the man) said he 'did not give a f***' and that we unlawfully detained him."

Despite attempts by a friend to control his behavior, the man then spouted more incendiary language and began to run as officers re-approached.

When officers caught up with the man, he resisted and began to push police away from him. Eventually, the man was restrained and arrested.

Once in custody, he was transported to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

Is there more to this story that was not reported?

'cause if not, I want to know why this arrest went unchallenged by police superiors.

Didn't the Supreme Court rule, during this past year, that the use of the word f*** towards police was not an arrestable offense?

The Court has also ruled on more than one occasion that intemperate language toward police is also not an offense, since police under their status as "professionals", are deemed by prior Court rulings to know what they may be subject to during the course of their job. Look it up. I did.

I'm quite sure the Court publicized its' rulings. I'm also sure that it is the duty of the police and the District Attorney to know the law. Ignorance of the law is never an excuse.

But I just bet they'll claim they didn't know and should therefore not be held accountable.

Just sayin' . . . do you WANT your police to make their own laws?

Well I agree with you shovelDriver, but I doubt that this man was arrested only for saying the "f" word. When you are drunk in public and yelling at people, much less officers, it is easy to see how he got arrested.
