Betty Curran Carter, age 89, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., died Wednesday Feb. 13, 2013, at her home at peace.

She loved the Lord. Mrs. Carter was a native of Lancaster, Penn., and was preceded in death by her parents, William Wayne and Eva Randow Curran, and by her husband, Major Howard Carter (USAF, Ret). Mrs. Carter was the wife of an Air Force officer and was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Murfreesboro. She spent a lifetime caring for others – she was a quality coordinator nurse at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, she headed the OBGYN department and was the charge nurse for Rutherford County Hospital and Alvin C. York Medical Center. The Red Cross honored her as the nurse of the year in 2000 for their blood pressure program, and the runner up in 2001. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her sons: Robert Carter and wife Sue of Florida, Howard Carter and wife Marie of North Carolina, Mark Carter of Murfreesboro, John Carter of South Carolina, and Kevin Carter and wife Victoria of Murfreesboro; sister Joy Landis of  Pennsylvania; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 7:00PM Friday, February 22, 2013 at Advent Lutheran Church. Visitation will be two hours before the service at the church. Pastor John Swyers will officiate. Internment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
