Betty Campbell Smith, age 66, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at her home after a long battle with cancer.

She was a native of Rutherford County and the daughter of the late Medford and Elise Lancaster Campbell.

Funeral service will be 2:00pm Thursday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Bro. Jerry Maxwell will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Smith was a 1964 graduate of Murfreesboro Central High School and earned her BA in elementary education in 1967 from MTSU. She started teaching the third grade at Middle Tennessee Christian School the day after she graduated from college and first grade at Buchanan Elementary for 34 years before her retirement. Following retirement she enjoyed the Buchanan Lunch Bunch who met each month for fellowship.

Mrs. Smith was a lifelong member of the Dilton Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed gardening, reading and cooking good meals for her family at home and church. She and her husband enjoyed traveling in their RV and spent some time Sebring, FL for the past several winters. While in Florida they attended the Sebring Church of Christ.

Mrs. Smith is survived be her husband, Jimmy Smith, son, Ernest Smith and wife Brianne, daughter, Melanie Freeman and husband Guy, all of Murfreesboro, brother, Kenneth Campbell and wife Nancy of Falmoth, MA, sister, Anna Williams and husband Larry of Lebanon, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Ann Smith of Murfreesboro, she was NANA to her four grandchildren, Mallory and Ethan Smith, Matthew and Sydney Freeman.

The family would like to thank the many friends and caregivers that helped her through the last two years of her life with cancer.

Memorials may be made to Dilton Church of Christ mission work and the American Cancer Society in memory of Mrs. Smith.
