Murfreesboro resident Carlene Hurst is one of 125 Tennesseans who were chosen to participate in Bemont University’s debate tonight in Nashville.
NBC anchor Tom Brokaw will moderate the town hall-style, Presidential debate where a specially chosen audience of undecided voters will question the candidates John McCain and Barack Obama on certain key issues.
And possibly Hurst will be one of the questioners.
Hurst is currently at Belmont running through rehearsals and is unable to speak with the media, but her husband of 28 years Hughes Hurst said his wife is very excited about the opportunity to meet the next president of the United States.
Hurst was chosen by Gallup after a telephone interview, where the polling company asked her a series of questions, her husband said.
“She said she must of answered them right,” Hughes said. “So she was invited to be a participant because she was an undecided voter.”
Her husband said she’s not a partisan voter, he’s known her to cast ballots for either party, and the issues she votes on are varied.
“I know she kicked around a couple of issues,” Hughes said about what she may ask the candidates, noting the issues were energy independence, the environment and recycling.
Hughes said his wife is very concerned about the future for their daughters, and her question will probably relate to that, if she’s lucky enough to ask.
The Belmont Debate begins at 8 p.m. tonight at Belmont’s Curb Event Center in Nashville.
