Twenty counts of rape and fondling were filed Friday against a man accused of having sex with a girl when she was age 11 to 13, a Rutherford County Sheriff’s detective said Tuesday. Suspect Randall Johnson Cottrell, 45, of 1017 Dellrose Drive in Bell Buckle, was charged with six counts each of incest, statutory rape and aggravated sexual battery of the girl, who is a relative, said Detective Lisa McCallum. He was also charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor after allegedly giving alcohol to the girl. Cottrell was accused of sexually touching the girl when she was 11 years old at his Rutherford County home, McCallum said. After she turned 13, Cottrell allegedly raped the girl for about six to eight months. McCallum launched her investigation after receiving a complaint in March and arrested Cottrell Friday. He carried a loaded handgun in his car when arrested. Detectives conducted a search warrant for evidence afterwards at Cottrell’s home. Additional charges may be pending. Cottrell was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where he is being held on $150,000 bond. A hearing is set May 11 in General Sessions Court. |
