The Boys & Girls Club believes every child has the potential to BE GREAT and we all play a vital role in helping young people find and achieve their dreams.
That is why the Boys & Girls Club themed their summer program, BE GREAT. Through every activity and trip, the members are encouraged to experience and learn new things.
Each week of the nine week program has a different theme, from Be Historic to Be Stellar. Fieldtrips and programming focus on the weekly themes.
This week was Be An Explorer. The members adventured on a spelunking trip in the Cumberland Caverns, navigated their way down the Duck River, explored Rock City, and camped at Long Hunter State Park.
“I went on the canoe trip,” nine-year-old Alex Estes said. “There were two people in my canoe, me and another Alex. One time, some of my friends in another canoe paddled too close to a tree and got stuck. We went to get them out and saw a waterfall.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Rutherford County has 804 children signed up for their 6 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday summer program. Each child receives breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack every day and has the chance to go swimming and skating each week along with many other exciting trips.
The mission of the Boys & Girls Club is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens.
