BBQ Battle, Family Fun Day approaching

New Frontiers, a Non-profit organization located in Middle Tennessee, announces that their first BBQ Battle and Family Fun Day will take place on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 at Barfield Park in Murfreesboro.

The event begins at 8:00 a.m. with a 5K run with special guest Kim Bindel of 94Fm The FISH Morning Show starting off the runners.

Events continue throughout the day until 4:00 p.m. with the Backyard BBQ Contest, Kids Q Contest, Hobo Cook off, Hot Rod Cruise In, Family Fun & Games, and Music & Crafts. Admission is Free into the park, fees do apply to participate in the 5K Run. BBQ Battle, Hobo Cook off, & Kids Q Contest.

Applications are available at The Backyard BBQ will begin at 10:00 a.m. for teams of BBQ-ers, with judging occurring shortly after noon. During the day, local youth groups will compete against each other in the Hobo Cook-off, as will local pastors. For the Kids Q, groups of kids will compete with others in their age group in 2 different food categories. Other activities, such as adventure games, music, crafts and the Cruise-in will go on throughout the day until 4 pm.

Lori Nellist, one of the New Frontiers’ founders, says that New Frontiers is very excited about providing a family friendly entertainment day at Barfield Park because “so many of our supporters and participants live in Rutherford County, but there are still many people who don’t know about New Frontiers.”

Activities for the BBQ Battle and Family Fun Day are specifically tailored to encourage families to participate together. The 1st annual BBQ Battle & Family Fun Day is presented by New Frontiers.
